4 Key Trends for Summer 2018
Summer 2018 is almost upon us which means it’s time for: outdoor barbeques, holidays abroad, weddings galore and trendy festivals. All this excitement means there’s no way you can resist buying a glam new outfit for all these occasions. In order to stand out and look fabulous check out all the best trends for this summer and how to style them:
Sundae Style:
Take your pick from parma violet, delicate lemon, pale coral, baby pink and pistachio – this season’s trend is pastel colours, and they’re good enough to eat! We saw them on the runways of Celine, Victoria Beckham and Preen – and now the high street is filling up with candy-coloured hues. From figure-flattering suits to cute dresses, check out how your fave celebs styled the look for some sweet style-inspo!
Of course Victoria Beckham, being the style icon she is, was completely on trend at her Dover Street store on International Women’s Day with this lilac ensemble. Lilac was popular on the runway and we love that she’s paired this sophisticated tailored suit with a purple shirt and pastel green court heels. Whether you're on a date or headed out with the girls, mint green is a cool and fresh colour that will flatter any skin tone. For the best look take a leaf out of J.Lo’s book and complement the pastel pieces with nude accessories.
Back to the 80s
The 80s are back and designers are reimagining some of the era's most iconic trends. If you love throwback fashion trends you’ll love what’s been going down the runways – think: puffy sleeves and shoulder pads; skin-tight bike shorts; layers and layers of tulle; high-waisted slouched jeans and bold prints! When done right, embracing ballooning sleeves and statement shoulders for summer can actually create a gorgeous sculptural effect. Taking padding to the max can also help you feel empowered, especially when attached to a cool blazer to help give off ‘boss lady’ vibes. As for bike shorts – this athleisure trend shows no signs of slowing, they can be dressed up or down depending on the look you’re going for.

Check please!
Just when you thought plaids and tartans were only for the colder months, along comes the legions of check-infused outfits on the streets at London, New York and Milan for Fashion Week. Check print is here for the summer and if you’re feeling like throwing on a plaid skirt and blazer à la Cher Horowitz – our fave fashion icon from the movies – you’re not alone. However, if you’re not feeling head-to-toe check print, try find any item of clothing with the print and mix it with feminine pieces. To make it look cool and effortless and stay away from anything too styled and preppy.
Bella Hadid’s style is impeccable and she’s one of the celebs who is fully embracing the plaid-trend. Check out all the great ways she’s styled the trend:
Shiny fabrics
Think anything from PVC, to silk and sequins – if it is shiny and glossy it’s a summer trend piece! The two best ways to style these tricky fabrics are: pair with muted tones to balance out the glossy garments and add some shine to otherwise serious outfits. OR, go all out head to toe shine and steal the lime-light. The latter is perfect for festival season! Don’t forget bedazzling doesn’t stop with the garments, you can even add some shimmer to your face/body with cute sequins and glitter – check out some of our fave shiny celebrity Coachella looks for your summer festival style inspo!
Kylie Jenner is totally on-trend with this head-to-toe taupe PVC jacket with matching trouser set. Paired with a nude bandau and bright pink wig she looks totally cool before heading out to the festival.
Complete unicorn vibes from Instagram influencer Sophie Hannah who wore a matching crop-top, shorts and jacket covered in iridescent sequins. She nailed this trend whilst going a bit extra with gorgeous, shimmering crown and face and body jewels.
Summer is all about having fun with friends, enjoying the (hopefully) gorgeous weather - but don't forget to have fun with your fashion choices! These key trends are great to mix and match and so easy to style, so go out and have fun in the sun whilst looking fabulous!
